The Fokker 70 has 70 seat configuration and considered a twin engine jet airliner designed as a smaller version of the Fokker 100 which has a 100 seat configuration.
Its development started in November of 1992 intended to replace the old Fokker F28, with a fuel efficient and more advanced airplane. Its first flight took place on April 4 of 1993 in Netherlands where Fokker company is located. The certification was granted in October of 1994. The first delivery was given to Ford Motor Company.
The avionics of Fokker 70 is the same with the Fokker 100 but enhanced for regional flights.
Majority of this model were delivered for operation in Europe except for the 2 that were delivered to America West Express
The versions of this model are the Fokker 70, Fokker 70A (1), and Fokker 70 "Executive Jet"
