LR is an abbreviation for Longer Range. The 777-200LR was considered the world's longest range commercial airliner when it started operation in 2006. Boeing described this aircraft as the Worldliner because of its capability to unite roughly any two airports worldwide but it is still under discussion for to ETOPS restrictions.
The 777-200LR has the ability to fly 9,450 nautical miles or an equivalent of around 43%of the Earth's circumference in about 18 hours.
The initial 777-200LR was ordered Pakistan International Airlines which was delivered on February of 2006. Air Canada and Emirates Airliens placed an order in November of 2005 while Qatar airways and Delta Airlines made an order in 2006. As of February 2009, there were 26 Boeing 777-200LR airplanes had been delivered. Its counterpart from Airbus is the A340-500HGW and A350-900R which is still a proposed future model.
