The 747-400 is the most recent, greatest ranging and greatest selling model of the 747 family.
It was launched on October 1985 and the first flight took place in April of 1988. The certification from US was awarded US in January of 1989.
The 747-400 is quite similar to the -300 but has some improvements. These include a new, 2 crew digital flight deck with s6 large CRT displays and an increased wing span. Its models are 747-400, 747-400ER, 747-400F.
The 1st 747-400ER was launched on June of 2002 and the initial flight flight took place on the following month.
