The A318, which is also called as the "Mini-Airbus" or "baby bus", is the smallest member of the A320 family. Also, it is the smallest Airbus of any kind. It came from the AVIC and Airbus Industrie Asia cooperation. It was categorized as a 100 seat regional airliner and is the European manufacturer's first incursion to the 100 seat market although Airbus early efforts at building a 100 seat airliner were focused on the latest AE31X program
This aircraft is planned to substitute early Boeing 737 and Douglas DC-9 models, although it is also a competitor to the 737-600.
Because it has a lighter weight, it can give a operating range 10% greater than the A320, enabling it to serve some routes that the A320.
