Boeings Next Generation aircrafts which are the 737-800 and 737-900 are the biggest members of the 737 family. Not like the other Boeings Next Generation aircrafts 737s, the -800 and -900 launched new fuselage lengths, lengthening 737 single class seating capacity to 189 which is only 100 in the original Boeing 737-100.
Before its production on September 5, 1994 the 737-800 was referred to as the 737-400X. The sales of this model were high from its introduction. Its initial flight was on July 31 1997 and was first delivered to Hapag Lloyd on April of 1998.

The 737-900 is the biggest and newest member of the 737 family. It was introduced on September of 1997. The first Airline to order it was Alaska Airlines, they ordered 10 of this model. This version ha an extended wing compared to the -800 which in turn increases its seating capacity to 177. Its first flight was on August 3, 2000 and the initial delivery was also to Alaska Airlines which was on May 15, 2001.
